We are a private clay pigeon shooting club founded in 1960 and run by the members, for the members.
A 60-bird Sporting shoot is held on the third Sunday of each month at Clandon Park near Guildford in Surrey, by kind permission of the 8th Earl of Onslow.
The layout changes every month, shooting commences and entries close at 10am. Fibre wad cartridges must be used, with a maximum of a 28 gram load of #6 shot.
Trophies are awarded in each of 3 member classes – A, B & C – with winners being promoted to the next class.
Handicap shoots are held in January (Drawn Pairs), June (Father’s Day parent & child) and December (Xmas).
A Winter Series competition is run over November, December, January & February.
Guests are welcome, usually at the invitation of members, although if you wish to take up clay shooting or are new to the area, please contact the Membership Secretary for further details.
News
The G&DGC Christmas Shoot 2025 takes place this coming Sunday, 21st December:
As well as our regular monthly trophy competition there will be a Christmas handicap competition with prizes. The first ten places get to choose from a selection of bottles of spirit, with the remainder of shooting members getting a bottle of wine. There will also be a small raffle. All bottles and prizes will only be presented to members who remain for the results and prize giving.
Tea and coffee will be provided. Disposable cups will be available but you may wish to bring your own mug.
The club will organise and purchase pizzas for members. A selection of the most popular pizzas from previous years will be ordered and collected for the end of the shoot.
Please drive on the estate's tracks, not along their margins, and close the final double gates behind you due to the presence of sheep.

Our next shoot combines the Surrey CPSA Side by Side Championship so you have the option of dusting off the pair of Purdeys or bringing out grandad’s old pigeon gun. There is a trophy for the highest Surrey CPSA Member, and also the Webley and Scott Trophy for anyone else using a Side by Side. Andy usually does his best to provide ‘sympathetic’ targets so expect Pheasant, Partridge, Grouse or Rabbit targets.
News Archives
There will be no monthly shoot at Clandon in October.
Please contact a club officer for details.
At our November shoot this year we are hosting the Surrey CPSA side-by-side competition (and Webley & Scott trophy for non-Surrey CPSA side-by-side users), running concurrently with the regular monthly 60 bird shoot.
November is also the first shoot in our Winter Series run over 4 months, with the best 3 of 4 scores to count.
Last entries and shooting to commence at 10am as usual.
To all members: The club's annual Tony Warsop Memorial Shoot - which was always well supported and enjoyed by all - was paused, like so many things, due to COVID. It is usually a 100-bird handicap shoot held at a different venue but in order to get the ball rolling again it's been decided that this year's TWMS will run in parallel with our August 20th shoot at Clandon. So, in addition to the normal class competitions there will be a handicap competition to award the Tony Warsop Trophy as well as class trophies. Handicaps have been calculated using the club rules regarding the TWMS competition but adjusted for 60-bird rather than 100-bird. Two competitions for the price of one, excellent value. Anyone could win, so come along and bring your A-game!
We have been informed that Dennis Kates has died at the age of 96. Dennis was one of the Club’s founder members in 1960 and was always very supportive of the Club and always quick to praise the Committee for their efforts in keeping the Club running smoothly. Dennis was a regular at ‘The Pit’ and always attended the AGMs. Although Dennis has not shot for a number of years, he was a Vice President and Honorary life member.
The photograph below shows Dennis at a charity shoot alongside Tony Warsop, Bernard Cribbins and Peter Saich.
Bernard also passed away last year after being a member of the Club since 1984. Bernard was 93 but said that he had not given up shooting, he had just given up owning a shotgun on the understanding that he could borrow one if he came to Clandon. He was made an OBE for his many years of Charity fundraising, chiefly for the White Lodge Children’s Centre in Chertsey, although he claimed that OBE stood for ‘Over Bloody Eighty’.
Dennis and Bernard will both be missed, particularly by the ‘more senior’ members of the Club, and the Committee send condolences to their families.
This month we will again be at our alternate site on the estate but there will be no access from the A25 Epsom Road.
The November shoot is the first in the 2022-2023 Winter Series, with the best 3 of 4 scores to count from Nov, Dec, Jan & Feb.
We will also be welcoming members of the Middlesex Woodpigeon Club for the start of their Winter Series.
At our October shoot this year we are hosting the Surrey CPSA side-by-side competition (and Webley & Scott trophy for non-Surrey CPSA side-by-side users), running concurrently with the regular monthly 60 bird shoot.
Last entries and shooting to commence at 10am as usual.
A reminder to all members and guests our regular 3rd Sunday shoot in April falls on the 17th, which is Easter Sunday.
Please take extra care driving through the estate this month as it is lambing season and as always drive slowly and re-close any gates.
Membership subscriptions are now overdue and if you haven't renewed you will be contacted by the club treasurer.
For the February shoot we will be returning to our primary site on the estate. Please enter Clandon Park from the A247 as the entrance on the A25 Epsom Road dual carriageway will be closed.
This is the last chance to post a score in the Winter Series competition.

On Sunday, we will have a return of Paul (the burger man) supplying us with bacon rolls, burgers, tea and coffee. Note that his continuation will depend on your support so please support him with a purchase of your breakfast etc.
