Competition Procedures

Updated 1st January 2018

1. A member must shoot a minimum of seven times in a calendar year to be eligible for an “End of Year” Award with the exception of the Special Achievement Cup and Club Member of the Year. Averages will be based on the average of the top seven scores by the member.

2. If more than one member is tied for first place in any of the three classes at the monthly shoot, then the winner will be decided on a countback system. The card with the most straights will be declared the winner; if there is still a tie, then the most stands where single misses have occurred will be counted to declare the winner, after which it would then be most stands with two misses and so on. Should both cards still be equal, then a shoot off will be held between the tied members present, with those not present eliminated. AA Class will not participate in a trophy shoot with this class formed from members winning A Class during the year.

3. At the January Handicap Shoot, only members who have shot seven times in the previous calendar year will be given a full handicap. Handicaps will be based on scores from the previous calendar year (twelve months, January to December).

Those who have shot five or six times in the previous calendar year will receive a 10% reduction on their handicap and will be capped at 30 for a 60 bird shoot.

Those who have shot on between one and five occasions in the previous calendar year will receive a 20% reduction on their Handicap and will be capped at 30 for a 60 bird shoot.

Those members who did not shoot in the previous calendar year will be given a handicap equal to the lowest handicap from members that fall in the above categories.

4. At the June Shoot which incorporates a Handicap Class for the Parent and Child Father’s Day Trophies, members must have shot on four or five occasions in that calendar year to receive a full handicap. Handicaps will be based on scores between January and May in the current calendar year.

Members who have shot on two or three occasions will incur a 10% reduction to their handicap and be limited to a maximum handicap of 30 for a 60 bird shoot.

Members who have shot on one occasion will receive a 20% deduction to their handicap and again be capped at 30 for a 60 bird shoot.

Members who have not shot will have a handicap equal to that of the current high gun.

5. At the Tony Warsop Memorial Shoot held at the end of June each year, Handicaps will be adjusted to reflect a 100 bird shoot and will be calculated as follows. Handicaps will be based on scores between June of the previous year and May of the current year (twelve months).

Members who have shot seven times or more will receive their full handicap multiplied by 1.5.

Members who have shot on five or six occasions will receive a 10% reduction to their handicap and then be multiplied by 1.5. They will also be subject to a maximum handicap of 45.

Members who have shot between one and five times will receive a 20% reduction to their handicap and then be multiplied by 1.5. They will also be subject to a maximum handicap of 45.

Members who have not shot in the twelve month period in question, will receive a handicap equal to the lowest handicap awarded to members fitting the above categories.

6. At the December Xmas Handicap Shoot, a member should have shot at least six times to get a full handicap. Handicaps are based on scores between January and November.

Any member who has shot either four or five times will have a 10% reduction to their score. They are also capped at 30 for a 60 bird shoot.

Any member who has shot between one and three times will suffer a 20% reduction to their handicap and again be capped at 30 for a 60 bird shoot.

Any member who has not shot in the year will have a handicap equal to the lowest handicap of all members in the above categories.

7. The Winter Series is held over the months of November, December, January and February.

Trophies are awarded to the top three scores in each class.

The classes are based on the commencement class at the beginning of the new calendar year, regardless of whether the member is promoted in February.

The shoot is over the four months with the top three scores only to count.

In the event of a tie, a countback system will be used. The person with the highest score will be declared the winner. If both highest scores are tied, then the person with the highest second score wins. If the total scores are tied, and the highest and second scores are also tied, then the result of the excluded “fourth” shoot will decide the winner. If a tie still remains, then the competition will be declared tied.

8. Classifications for the new calendar year are decided using the following criteria.

Any member who has shot less than three times during the year will be placed into ”Unclassified” class which does not take part in trophy shoots. To regain a classification, the member must shoot at least three times in the new calendar year.

The remaining number of members will have 11 subtracted and then be divided by three. Where the number is not equally divisible by three, a remainder of one will be added to C Class and where there is a remainder of two, one will be added to C Class and one to B Class. With these numbers, A Class and B Class numbers are decided, and the remaining number in C will have eleven added back in to determine the starting number. This ensures that there should be roughly an equal number in classes A through C at the end of the year.

With the number in A Class established, AA Class from the previous year, plus if necessary, the top averages in A Class from the previous year will determine who will retain A Class status in the new calendar year. The remainder of A Class will automatically fall into B Class with the proviso that no member may be demoted more than one class in a year. The remainder of B Class will be decided by the top averages in B Class from the previous year.

The balance will form C Class.

For those members in Unclassified class, after completing three shoots, the members average will be judged against the average scores of the three shoots attended segregated by class. The class average to which the members score is nearest will determine the class to which they will be allocated. This will also apply to determine the class for new members.
