Shoot Report – Peter Saich

Firstly, a massive thank you to the committee for planning and running a shoot for the Onslow Family at Clandon Park on Saturday – there were around thirty guests, mostly novices who were coached and looked after over a range of targets with a mini flush at the end. The bottom line is that we get a huge amount of goodwill from our landlord and a significant reduction in our annual rent, which helps to keep down the cost of member’s shooting. Many of the team of helpers were on site from 8.00 a.m. yesterday morning, leaving past 5.00 p.m. and then back at Clandon on Sunday morning to add more stands and tweak some targets. This was a great team effort for the good of the Club and I am sure that my thanks are endorsed by the whole of the membership.

There was a bumper turnout of 51 shooters today despite the forecast rain, which happily kept away while we were shooting, but unfortunately started as we began to clear up. Andy had utilised some of the targets from yesterday but by making them simultaneous pairs made some relatively straight forward targets more testing, with an element of making your mind up which to attempt first, and trying not to rush either target. There has been some good feedback today on the layout and as we got 51 people through in less time than usual, this is something that we will consider again. Top scorer today was Nigel Foreman, winning AA with 50. There was a close finish in A Class, with Andy Wallace taking the honours with 47, just ahead of Gavin Smith and James Faulkner on 46. There were similar scores in B Class with James Oakford winning on 47, with Chris Gummer second with 46. In C Class, Mike Thackery won on 38, with Stuart Hulme in second place with 36 and Jan Wallace in third on 35.
