April 2021

38 members and 5 guests attended our first shoot this year in perfect weather conditions, set over 8 stands with the usual mix of targets. After a 6 month layoff some of the traps and the layout designer’s lack of thinking caused some issues but hopefully these didn’t spoil the day and everyone was just happy to get out shooting again. There were a wide range of scores across all classes with B class being particularly keenly contested.
Winner of A class and promotion to AA was Nigel Foreman with 55, B class was won by Chris Wells with a fantastic 52 and Phil Saich secured a C class victory with a very fine 46. Well done to all and a massive thanks to everyone involved with the setting up and clearing away.

October 2020

37 members and 8 guests attended the shoot this month in dry and still conditions over 8 stands with the usual mixture of targets. It’s a pity that the generator powering the intended Rat, which was running fine yesterday and this morning, gave up and refused to restart just as we began.
Running alongside the usual club competition there were two annual side-by-side trophies being contested:
The Surrey CPSA Trophy was retained by Peter Saich with a very good score of 50 and the Webley & Scott Trophy was won this year by Tim King from Sussex with 45.
In the club shoot Glen Boxall was the sole AA gun this month and scored 50, while Andy Willett secured an A class win with 52. Chris Flanders returned for the first time since January and shot an impressive 50 in B to gain promotion to A class and Richard Collins won C class with a fine 42.
Thanks as always go to all involved in setting up, taking down and running the shoot.
Further lockdowns or ‘circuit breakers’ allowing we’ll be back at the same part of the estate next month.

September 2020

35 members and 7 guests, including 1 junior, attended this month’s shoot.
Conditions were dry and bright but with a variable wind. The layout was over 8 stands and presented a wide variety of targets and scores were once again very slightly down overall compared to earlier in the year.
After an 8 month absence from shooting Daren O’Toole returned to take high gun, an A class win and promotion to AA class with an excellent 52. Already in AA, Nigel Foreman posted 46. James Horrod took the B class trophy and promotion to A with a very good 44 whilst Kevin Addison won C class with 41. Well done all.
Thanks again to everyone who helped set up and take down.

Unless we are forced into lockdown again and are unable to shoot , we’ll be back at the same part of the estate on October 18th.

August 2020

With social distancing and other Covid-19 Secure measures in place, we resumed this month after a 4 month suspension due to the pandemic.

Thankfully the weather was kind and attendance was good, with 42 members and 5 guests shooting a 7 stand layout in a new area. Scores were slightly down overall, most probably due to a combination of a firmer than usual set of targets (not deliberate by the course setter!) and lack of recent practice. A couple of stands in particular were quite deceptive and caught a good few of us out.

High gun, A class honours and promotion to AA went to Glen Boxall with an excellent 52. Already in AA, Nigel Foreman posted a worthy 48. B class was won by Alex Wells with a very good 45, whilst a solid 41 secured C class for Aaron Wiggins.

Well done all!

Thanks go to all who helped with setting up and taking down, also to our Treasurer, Daren O’Toole, who came along first thing to handle admin and distribute pre-purchased cartridges, but due to other commitments had to leave. Lastly a massive thank you to Matt Oldland who despite being double-booked and not able to stay to shoot this month, set up on Saturday, did a security sweep later that night, returned to set up very early on Sunday, and then came back to pack away.
